Venue hire
Hire a room on Lewisham High Street
A self-contained room with its own entrance, a kitchen and its own WCs — and, when you need something grander, a church that has been standing for something like eleven hundred years.
The crypt room
The room most people want. It sits at the east end of the crypt, and although it is below the church it works as a space in its own right — you need never go through the church to use it.
- Its own entrance, at street level. Your people arrive straight into your room. Nobody walks through a service, and a service does not walk through you.
- A kitchen next door, with counters and an extraction hood — enough to make tea for a room, or to plate up food brought in.
- Its own WCs, one of them accessible, off the same lobby, so nothing sends people wandering.
- It holds up to 30 people. That is the limit set by our fire risk assessment rather than a rough guide, so it is a firm number — but it is a comfortable 30 rather than a squeeze.
- Arched windows on both long walls under a vaulted ceiling a little over two and a half metres high. It is a Victorian undercroft and it looks like one, which people tend to like more than they expect to.
It suits classes, rehearsals, meetings, training days, children’s parties, support groups and anything else that wants a plain, self-contained room with a kettle and a door of its own. Regular weekly bookings are very welcome.
Step-free, in and out
The entrance is at street level and there is an accessible WC, so the room works for wheelchair users without anybody having to be asked to manage a step. If there is something specific you need to know — a door width, turning space, where to set down — ask us and we will go and measure it rather than guess.
The rest of the crypt is not available — it is the historic burial vaults, and it stays closed.

The church
The nave is hired less often and is worth asking about. It is a resonant, handsome space in the middle of Lewisham that holds up to 250 people — again the figure from our fire risk assessment — and it is available for:
Concerts
Choirs, orchestras and bands use it through the year. The acoustic is generous and there is an organ.
Conferences
Daytime use for meetings and away days, in a room nobody falls asleep in.
Filming
We host location shoots. An eleven-hundred-year-old site twenty minutes from central London.
The church is in use for worship, so availability depends on the diary — but there is more room in it than people assume, particularly on weekday evenings. How the 250 sit depends on the layout you want, so tell us what you have in mind and we will work it out with you.
The kitchen
Where it is, and where people park
346 Lewisham High Street, London SE13 6LE— on the High Street beside Lewisham Hospital. Ladywell station is five minutes’ walk and buses stop outside; see visiting us for the detail.
There is no car park, but there is on-street parking on Lewisham Park, two minutes away, which charges Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm with a 4 hours maximum stay. Evenings, Saturdays and Sundays are free, so an evening or weekend booking costs your guests nothing to park. Nearby streets are in other zones, so it is worth telling people to read the sign.
What it costs
Tell us what you need and we will come back with availability and a price. Rates depend on the space, the time of day and whether it is a one-off or a regular booking, and we would rather quote you properly than have you work it out from a table.
We are a parish church rather than a commercial venue, and we would far rather the room were used than empty. There is a lower rate for local charities and community groups, and we apply it when we quote — you do not have to ask for it.
If you want the room every week, we let by the term: twelve weeks, invoiced as one block. Weeks the church is not letting — Holy Week, the week after Christmas — are skipped and not charged. Each week is booked separately even so, which means one week can be moved or cancelled without unpicking the rest of the term.
If what you are planning is too big for the crypt room but a church is not what you had in mind, the halls at St Mary’s Centre on Ladywell Road may suit you better — a separate charity, linked with the parish, letting its halls for parties, live music and meetings.
Deposits, and what you are agreeing to
If you go ahead there are two payments that both get called a deposit, and they do different things.
- The booking deposit is part payment of the hire. It secures the date and it is not refundable, unless the church has to cancel.
- The security deposit is held against damage. If nothing is claimed against it, it comes back in full within 28 days.
The terms come with the invoice. Paying the booking deposit is how you accept them — there is no box to tick, on purpose. The payment is the agreement, and a tick box would only be a second, weaker record of the same thing.
When the rooms are already taken
These are the hours already booked in the next 12 weeks. A date that is not listed is not yet booked — which is not the same as being free. This is a working parish church, and services, weddings and funerals are arranged separately and are not shown here. Please ask, using the form below, and we will confirm whether we can say yes.
