Ask us to pray

For yourself, or for someone you love. You do not have to be a member of the congregation, or come to church at all.

Names on our prayer list are remembered at the Sunday mass and by people praying at home during the week. A name stays on the list for about six weeks — for someone who has died, until the funeral where we know the date — and you can ask us to keep it there longer or take it off sooner at any time.

A person reads this first. What you send goes to the Vicar and the parish office, and a name is put on the list by hand. Nothing appears anywhere automatically.
The list is not published. It is printed for those leading the services. It is not on this website, and not anywhere else on the internet.

We read out first names only for those who are ill. The full name is on the printed sheet so whoever is leading knows who is meant. A first name on its own is enough here if you would rather.

Anything you would like us to know (optional)

A sentence is plenty, and please do not tell us a diagnosis — we do not need one and would rather not hold it. Seen only by the clergy and the parish office, never read out, never on the list. Leave it blank if you would rather.

Only if you have been able to ask. Please do not worry if you have not — most people never think of it, and there is not always a chance. Leave it unticked and we will use our judgement, or say so below and we will pray without using the name.

What we do with what you tell us

The name you give goes on the prayer list, which is printed for the Sunday mass and is never published anywhere. For those who are ill only the first name is read aloud — a surname said from the front of a church tells two hundred people exactly which family is unwell. Names of those who have died are read in full.

Anything else you write is read only by the clergy and the parish office, is not published, and is not read out. We keep prayer requests no longer than we need to.
